Many sewing machines have a built-in light that will tell you if the machine is powered on or not. If your sewing machine has a power switch, it's usually on the right side or back of the machine. Some sewing machines do not have a separate switch and are activated as soon as they are connected to the power supply.
Also, place the pedal of the sewing machine in a comfortable position under your feet.
